SuperN00b Update, February 2013

COMPLETED

Bioshock 2 – As gorgeous and stylish as the first installment. I’m really looking forward to Bioshock Infinite.

Call of Duty Black Ops II – Easily the best Call of Duty title produced to date (at least of all the modern warfare series-never played the others). I liked it so much that I plan to play the campaign through again at a higher level (something I have NEVER done in any game before) AND…wait for it…..I am giving multiplayer a shot. (Getting my ass kicked but still having fun-for now).

Halo 3 ODST – After an aborted first try, I completed this one in a relatively short time, with the aid of my trusty Avenger!

Halo 4 – Like the latest CoD installment, easily the best Halo yet. I am continually amazed how game developers are able to keep raising the bar. Though in this case, it helped to have new blood behind the scenes in 343 Studios. Maybe an occasional move to a new studio is a wise move for all the big franchises…

Journey – Having played the other two most famous games from That Game Company (Flow and Flower), Journey is the crown jewel of this outfit.

Mass Effect 3 – Funny how this TRULY EPIC game didn’t appeal to me my first go at it (Mass Effect 1). Now, it’s my hands down favorite. I even got choked up when I (aka Commander “Eddie” Shepard) bit the dust after saving Earth. Actually, I MEANT to make the choice of giving up the ghost to become data and control the Reapers. But apparently, I was supposed to go left to do that. I went right, sacrificed myself to destroy them and be dust. Still, such a great story/world. So great, I couldn’t resist buying it for the bargain basement price of $10 on Origin, after finishing it on 360. Besides, I sold my copy before the release of (DLC) Citadel.

Motorstorm Apocalypse – Not much to report here. A fun racer atop skyscrapers. Great fun!

Spec Ops: The Line – A visually stunning  shooter, reminiscent in plot and feel of Apocalypse Now (Heart of Darkness). The problem is that it may be a bit “too hip for the house”, myself included. While quite an enjoyable and engaging campaign, even after reading a synopsis on Wikipedia, I still am scratching my head as to what really happened in all that chaotic carnage.
