I can’t remember what year this was exactly, 1997 or 1998. And though the twin towers still stood then, I saw very little of them or any other skyscrapers for that matter. It was a surgical strike: a sparsely-attended gig at CBGB’s, a night on a hotal floor, then back to Buffalo by car. Good times.
Lost Weekend
I lifted a riff from ELO’s “Sweet Talkin’ Woman” for this simple ditty, written long ago, during my bachelor days. During that period, weekends were often a blur of TV zoning (Nick at Nite), Internet surfing, and pub crawling (with the Old Pink as the final destination). Note the references to several old TV series like The Twilight Zone, I … Read More
Pano’s Girls
I was fortunate enough to find this old Pano’s photo on Wikimedia Commons. This was the Pano’s I wrote about in my song-a quaint mom and pop operation staffed with generally hot 20-30 somethings waitresses. I played the bass and keys. The rest were loops. I hand-delivered a copy of the song to Alex Georgiadis himself a decade ago. (Perhaps … Read More
Pump (White Boy Flow)
Back in the mid-90’s there was a little-known, Buffalo, NY (white) rap band called Tabu. (It turns out there’s a thirty year old band in Southern California by the same name, as I failed to find any mention of said rap group on the interwebs.) They appeared to be riding the coattails of House of Pain and in my opinion, … Read More
Super N00b Check-in, August 2010
Pwned since last update:* World in Conflict (PC) – Okay, okay. I DID use some cheats. A credit to the RTS genre for sure though! GTA IV The Lost & the Damned (Xbox) GTA IV The Ballad of Gay Tony (Xbox) Mirror’s Edge (Xbox) – Super cool. Can’t wait for the sequel. Mass Effect (Xbox) – Amazing. Ironic that after … Read More
A Quarter Century of Misery
SO MUCH has changed since I left the city of my youth-the one I called home for 38 years. After reading the aforementioned email, I began to reflect on those 38 years. I must say that, despite the absence of a father figure for most of my formative years, my childhood was a rich one in many ways. (It wasn’t … Read More
Super N00b Check-in, December 2009
It’s been a great year for time sinking, er, gaming. I finished Gears of War 2, Bioshock, Resident Evil 5, Arkham Asylum. I sold Mass Effect, Prototype, Borderlands, Unreal Tournament III, and Fallout 3 GOTY Edition without even getting ¼ through them. (That was my second go round with Fallout…) It’s final: RPGs are not for me. So, now spinning: … Read More
Summer of ’86
I’m sure that like me, many football (soccer) fanatics can call up and/or cross reference life memories based on what major football event was taking place at the same time. For me, the Summer of 1986 comes rushing in like a flood. A random collection of memories in no particular order: – I lived in a college flop house near … Read More
